Ten Great RPG Games Available On The Nintendo Switch

I adore RPG games; they’re expansive, beautiful and allow you to play how you like (majority of the time). But, with so many of them available, it’s hard to know where to start if you’re new to the genre. That’s why I thought it was only right to collaborate a list for you!

Just to be clear, these games are not in any particular order. They are just a collection of RPG games I believe you should play, as they are excellent and available on the Switch. Let’s get started!

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is so much more than just you’re bog-standard RPG. It has farming, battling monsters, finding love, doggos – literally everything laid out into a nice little pixel adventure! It now also has online co-op which makes it a hell of a lot more fun.

If you haven’t already played it, just do it. You won’t be sorry.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Okay, this game has been out for many, many years starting on the PlayStation 3, but it has now been fully remastered for the Nintendo Switch and is one of the most wonderful games I think I’ve ever played.

If you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli, then you will adore this game. Just go and look at it. Now. It’s beautiful!

Octopath Traveler

An RPG game inspired by the classics, this 2D/3D adventure features a fantastic story with a ton of likeable characters, brilliant gameplay, and a beautiful soundtrack. This is the perfect game for classic RPG players.

Not to mention, there’s a sequel-not-sequel coming soon with Triangle Strategy.

Golf Story

An RPG-meets-golf adventure. Just trust me on this one, it’s fantastic. It’s so well done, and I don’t even like golf! I also wrote a Nindie Spotlight on this gem.

This one also has a sequel coming out in the near future with Sports Story.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising

Honestly, this one doesn’t get the credit it deserves. An open-world RPG set around Greek mythology that is also set in a stunning cartoony art style. This one is rated pretty high on my list, and Jason even praised it tremendously in his review.

There is even a decent amount of DLC for this title that adds even more value to a wonderful experience.

Monster Hunter Rise

I couldn’t not include my favourite series of all time now, could I? This is not for everyone, but if you take the time to learn it, it’s one of the most in-depth and rewarding games you can play. Kill monsters, make armour and weapons, and kill more monsters. What more could you want? Need more convincing? Check out Jason’s review!

There is even a massive DLC coming this year to expand the experience. For more on Monster Hunter Rise, check out all of our coverage.

Diablo 3

A top-down dungeon crawling RPG that will provide you with hours upon hours of gameplay alone or with a friend as well! Get ready to accrue more loot then you can carry. And we all know I like my loot.

This is an amazing game that I think everybody needs to experience, and the fact that the Eternal Collection is on the Switch is just icing on the cake.

Child of Light

This one has been out since the Nintendo Switch launched, but I still class it as one of my favourites. Child of Light is a beautifully told story with an even more beautiful aesthetic.

Turn-based combat goodness. Look at it.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Considered one of the best JRPG games around, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is absolutely HUGE. There is so much to do and explore with fantastic gameplay mechanics. Be prepared to spend a lot, and I mean a lot of hours, in this one.

It will take your life, but it is worth it!

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

A light-hearted spin-off based on the anime of the same name. This one is a lot of fun and a nice refreshing take on the Monster Hunter franchise. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a lot simpler and a lot more beginner-friendly than it’s mainline older sibling, and that is perfectly fine!

Like Monster Hunter Rise, this has also been getting healthy content since its launch, including Palamutes as “monsties”.

So, that’s it! My list of ten RPG games you should play on the Nintendo Switch!
