Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet: Cyclizar and New Items

The Pokémon Company released a new trailer at the end of the 2022 Pokémon World Championships showcasing new information about the upcoming game, including the reveal of a brand new Pokémon, Cyclizar!

Cyclizar is a Dragon/Normal type known as the Mount Pokémon, and is 1.6 meters (5.2 feet) tall and weighs  63 kilograms (138.8 lbs). It’s ability is Shed Skin, which grants it the chance to heal status conditions, and also has a new move called Shed Tail, which creates a substitute before immediately swapping Cylclizar for a party Pokémon in waiting.

Cyclizar has. similar to the box art Legendaries for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, namely in the fact that it is a lizard and has a wheel on its chest. It is possible that is it a pre-evolution of both Legendaries, similar to Cosmog in Pokémon Sun and Moon as well as Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. However, this has not been confirmed and is purely speculation.

There are also new items that will be introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. These include the Mirror Herb, a one-time use item that will allow the holder to mirror an opponent’s stat boosts; the Covert Cloak, which conceals the holder and protects them from the additional effects of moves; and the Loaded Dice, which makes multistrike moves more likely to hit multiple times.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet: The Terastel Phenomenon

The trailer also provided a look at the “Terastallizing” phenomenon, which allows a Pokémon to change Type based on its “Tera Type”, which the trailer emphasizes will change the competitive scene.

A Pokémon’s Tera Type is will not be known until they Terastalize, likely meaning that even Pokémon of the same species will have different Tera Types. For instance, while Tyranitar was shown in the trailer to become a Ghost type after Terastallizing, it is possible that another Tyranitar might become Grass or Fire or some other type upon changing, especially considering Eevee was shown to have different Tera Types in the previous trailer. Whether this has to do with the design philosophy of Eevee itself or a feature of the game is also unknown at this time.

The Battle Stadium feature will allow players to compete in competitive play using the internet to battle Trainers from all over the world! In Ranked Battles, they will have the chance to raise their rank to the Master Ball tier, or they can engage in low-stakes Casual Battles or Online Competitions in various formats with friends. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership will be needed to access this feature.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. Check out the new trailer below:
