Nintendo and Starlight Work Together to Bring Switch Consoles to Hospitals
Nintendo and Starlight, an organization that delivers happiness to healing children, have worked together in the past to bring hospital-safe consoles, including a version of the Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Wii. Now they have once again collaborated to bring a special version of the Nintendo Switch designed for hospitals around the United States that comes equipped with 25 games and can be easily rolled into different rooms.
The Switch Gaming Station, which is the latest effort between Nintendo and Starlight, was announced last year at the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital located in Tacoma, Washington.
The specialized Switch console includes games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Maker 2, Super Mario Party, Cuphead, Minecraft, and many more!
Since the partnership began in 1992, Starlight, with the help of Nintendo of America, has delivered more than 7,200 gaming stations to hundreds of hospitals across North America, while continuing to bring smiles to more than 11.6 million ill children. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many more children and families stuck in hospitals this year as well.
“Gaming delivers happiness to kids stuck in the hospital by providing entertainment and much-needed distraction from stressful situations,” Starlight said in a post earlier this month. “It can even provide emotional support, resulting in reduced anxiety and improved mood.”
You can head over to Starlight’s homepage to check out more, learn about their mission, and even make a donation if you feel moved to do so. In a year that has been chock full of sad and disappointing news, it is heart-warming to see such positivity oozing through the cracks.
Thank you for stopping by Nintendo Link for all of your wholesome gaming news. What do you think of this collaboration between Nintendo and Starlight? I remember really well when the Wii versions were rolling out and how much of a difference that made in so many kids’ lives. I am sure the same will be done with these special Switch consoles! Let us know what you think in the comments below. Happy gaming, everyone.
