Exciting New Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet Showcases New Characters, Pokemon, and Features
The Pokemon Company released a brand new Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet trailer showcasing a bucket’s worth of information about the game, from its story to some interesting new characters to some awesome-looking new Pokemon, and a brand new set of products releasing for the game!
Strap in for the long haul, cause this one is going to be a doozy.
The first bit of news we’ll look at will be the main focus of the trailer: the story! Players will be able to explore three diverging paths in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, known as Starfall Street, the Victory Road, and the Path of Legends! Each path will lead the players through a different storyline that will shape the course of their journey in their own way!
Without further ado, let’s go over all the latest news for the Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet games!
Take on the Rebellious Team Star on Starfall Street!
The rebellious Team Star is made up school’s most troublesome students with several squads scattered across the region on their own bases. Known for skipping class and being delinquents who cause trouble for all those around them, they disturb the peace and use pushy recruitment tactics to recruit new members and cause mayhem!
Team Star grunts will send out a relentless barrage of Pokemon to anyone that gets in the way, and players may have to make use of the brand new Auto Battles feature to stop them!
What are Auto Battles? Glad you asked! Auto Battles are an extension of the new Let’s Go! feature, a phrase fans of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee might recognize. It allows you to send one Pokemon you have out and walk with you in the Paldea region completely freely, exploring on its own, finding items on its own, and even battling on its own! It pretty much puts your Pokemon on autopilot and lets the player wither monitor or explore at leisure! Pretty cool right?
Players can use this feature to more easily take down the forces of Team Star and raid their bases and defeat them within the time limit!
Each base also has its own boss, one of which was shown in the trailer: Meela, the boss of Team Star’s Fire crew, the Schedar Squad. Her signature Pokémon is a Torkoal.
The uniforms worn by the members of Team Star will differ depending on the version of the game being played
The Victory Road: Pass the Gym Tests!
Players can challenge Paldea’s 8 Gyms in another storyline, all managed by the Pokémon League, and take on the Champion Assessment to reach the coveted rank of Champion. The battle-savvy Nemona will accompany them as they take on the challenge.
Players must first pass a Gym Test before they can be allowed to challenge the Gym Leader, the contents of which are unique to each Gym. One of the Gym Leaders shown was the Grass-type Gym Leader of Artazon, Brassius, who uses a Sudowoodo that he Terastalizes into a Grass-type.
Another new character is Geeta, the chairwoman of the Pokémon League that operates Paldea’s Pokémon Gyms and stands at the top of the region’s Champions.
The Path of Legends: Hunt Down the Hebra Mystica!
The upperclassmen Arven will join the player in search of rare ingredients called Herba Mystica, which are said to restore health instantly, in his hunt for research on healthy recipes.
Unfortunately, they are all guarded by gigantic Titan Pokémon that are bigger, stronger, and WAY meaner than their normal counterparts! This is a bit of a pickle, and since Arven stinks at battling, you’ll have to accompany him to take down the various Titan Pokemon, which seem to function similarly to Totem Pokemon from Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, and do the heavy lifting while searching for the legendary Herba Mystica together!
Have fun!
Even More New Pokemon!
Not even a week after revealing Grafaiai, the trailer showcased three brand new Pokémon coming to Scarlet and Violet: Klawf, Amrarouge, and Ceruledge!
Klawf is based on krab (obviously) and is known as the Ambush Pokemon. According to its Pokedex entry, it can rotate its protruding eyeballs around, eliminating all its blind spots, and latch upside down onto cliffs to ambush its prey from above.
It is a pure Rock-type, 4’3″ (1.3 m), 174.2 lbs. (79.0 kg), and will have the abilities Shell Armor and Anger Shell. Anger Shell is a new ability that makes it so when Klawf’s HP drops below half, it’s Defense and Special Defense go down in exchange for its Attack, Special Attack, and Speed going up.
It as mainly showcased as one of the Titan Pokemon players will encounter if they take on the Path of Legends storyline.
Armarouge is one of two version exclusives for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the other being Ceruledge.
First we’ll talk about Armarouge.
It boasts a set of armor that once belonged to a distinguished warrior, which serves as the source of the energy used for its Psychic-type moves. It can use the psychic capabilities of this armor to control the fire within its body.
It is the Fire Warrior Pokemon, is a Fire/Psychic type, 4’11” (1.49 m), 187.4 lbs (85 kg), and has the ability Flash Fire as well as a new move, Armor Cannon.
By moving both its pauldrons on its hands to form a cannon, it can shoot out a powerful blazing projectile at the cost of lowering its Defense and Sp. Defense stats. It is exclusive to the Pokémon Violet version.
Ceruledge dons an old set of armor steeped in grudges from fallen spirits, and wields blades made of fire and ghost energy. It can turn these into great swords in battle.
It is the Fire Blades Pokemon, Fire/Ghost type, 5’3” (1.6 m), 136.7 lbs (62 kg), and will also have also has the ability Flash Fire with the new move, Bitter Blade.
This is a physical Fire-type move that “gathers the lingering regrets of the fallen into Ceruledge’s swords” which then absorb life energy to restore its HP by up to half the damage taken by the target. It is exclusive to the Pokémon Scarlet Version.
