Where To Catch Gyarados In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Gyarados Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Gyarados is a mighty creature in the Pokemon series, and it’s available to catch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Here are the two main ways you can add Gyarados to your party or box in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Gyarados can be spotted around the edges of the Paldea region in the ocean. However, it is more commonly found within the waters of Casseroya Lake. This is located northwest of The Great Crater of Paldea and north of Cascarrafa.

The Gyarados can be seen spotted in groups, and you’ll have to be careful as they’re around Level 50-55 in this area. Make sure you’ve levelled up enough to get an advantage on them. Before attempting to catch Gyarados, you should buy a bunch of Net Balls from the store as they’re effective at snatching water-type Pokemon.

Evolving Magikarp

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can get a Gyarados by simply evolving an easily found Magikarp to Level 20. We found one just outside the academy town Mesagoza within the river.

This is quite tedious as Magikarp are ineffective in battle, but you’ll eventually be able to get them up to this level with the game’s EXP share system. You can also use Rare Candies and Exp. Candies you can find in the environment, but it’s probably not worth the effort. Use the Rare Candies when levelling up is a more intensive process at Lvl 80 or 90.

The first option may be more beneficial as the Gyarados you can catch in Casseroya Lake are far stronger in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. You won’t need to level up the Gyarados throughout the game.
