Does Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Have Co-op?

Many fans are diving into Ubisoft’s brand new title on Nintendo Switch systems, and with its recent review scores, it’s easy to see why. But one question many fans have been asking is, does Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope have a co-op mode? Well, I’m here to let you know. Spoiler: you’re going to be disappointed.

Is Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Playable in Co-op?

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope

If you have played the original game from Ubisoft, you will remember that the entirety of the game was playable with a friend, from start to finish. They even patched in a versus mode in a free update, for that bit of competitive edge.

Sadly though, there will be no multiplayer experiences to be had in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and it doesn’t look like it will be added in the future either.

In a recent interview before the game’s release, Quentin Correggi (associate producer) stated that plans for the sequel were always to focus on a more in-depth single-player experience. This meant they had to sacrifice the games’ co-op to make way for better visuals, characters and mechanics.

In another interview with Screenrant, producer Xavier Manzanares had this to say:

We decided in the middle of production to focus on the solo experience. Because, actually as we brought many things from the original concept, we started to see how many elements it brought to the table, and to balance that, this revamped system, we wanted to focus our attention on the solo aspect. So, it was really important for us and we decided to assume that the decision, in order to scope out dangers, where we could go many directions, but then it’s unbalanced everywhere and it’s a game that never ships. So, it was a decision we took during production.

So, as disappointing as this news may be to some, it’s clear to see the vision that Ubisoft had for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and it certainly sparked hope in me.
