Pokemon GO Celebrating Dia de Muertos Next Month

The Pokemon GO news seemingly never stops, and this time Niantic has announced that they are celebrating Dia de Muertos within the game this year, which will include new cempasúchil crowns, bonuses, and a Collection Challenge!

Dia de Muertos is a holiday observed in Mexico and other parts of the Americas that celebrates the lives and the memory of friends and family who have moved on to another world. It translates into English roughly as “Day of the Dead”, but don’t let that name fool you. There is nothing scary about this, only memories and family.

In an ancient Aztec tradition, it was said that the spirits of our loved ones never go away but simply travel to a different world, and during a special time each year, they would return to our world. Ever since, people that celebrate Dia de Muertos get ready for this occasion, setting the table with the favorite dishes of their ancestors, covering the streets with petals of the cempasúchil flower, and lighting candles and incense to enjoy a joyful celebration full of colors, music, flowers, and flavors.

The Pokemon GO Dia de Muertos event begins on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. your local time, and Duskull will be featured wearing the cempasúchil crown. Evolving Duskull will also present Dusclops and Dusknoir wearing the crown as well. If you’re lucky, you can even get a shiny Duskull wearing the cempasúchil crown!
