Denuvo Launches First Nintendo Switch Anti-Piracy Software

Super Mario Odyssey Mario as a Pirate Nintendo Switch

A brand new anti-piracy software, Denuvo by Irdeto, has officially been released. It is described as a “revolutionary technology meant to protect games launching on the Nintendo Switch from piracy,” which will make it so that anyone who wishes to play a Nintendo Switch game on PC will have to buy a legitimate copy first, protecting the PC.

What Does This All Mean?

Developed by the global leader in security solutions for video games on desktop, console, and mobile platforms, the announcement comes off the crux of addressing the piracy issues that have affected Nintendo consoles for years, including the Switch.

Irdeto claims that Nintendo Switch titles could previously be emulated on day one and played on PC by bypassing any protections offered on the PC version of the game. The company hopes that by preventing piracy on Switch consoles as well as blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios will be encouraged be able to increase their revenue during the game’s launch through greater advertisement

By making that anyone who wishes to play the game first has to buy a legitimate copy, instances of piracy will reportedly decline.
