Developer Nipon Ichi Software has officially announced the development of that Disgaea 7, the latest game in their iconic tactical RPG franchise, which will be coming to Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on January 26, 2023. Currently, no western release date has been confirmed at this time.

What will Disgaea 7 Bring to the Series?

Disgaea 7 will be the latest in the popular tactical RPG franchise and will be set in a twisted version of the Netherworld called the “Hinomoto Netherworld Cluster,” inspired by Japanese culture.

Players will take on the role of a swordsman named Fuji as he fights his way through the world in search of his lost Bushido, accompanied by a young woman otaku named Piririka. The game will be the first in the series to feature 45 generic characters, each designed by series artist Takehito Haradaas, well as an “online AI battle mode”.

The developers promise that the series’ signature “replayability features” and “over-the-top battle systems” will remain and be enhanced even further in Disgaea 7, mainly through a new system called “Dodeka MAX” that allows characters to grow in size! With this, they can unleash powerful attacks on multiple enemies, open giant treasure boxes, and wreak havoc all across the map!

The Disgaea franchise first made its debut in 2003 with the tactical role-playing game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and the previous entry, Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, launched last year for Nintendo Switch PS5, PS4, and PC in North America and Europe on January 28, 2021.
