How To Get Started In Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak has just released and though the starting requirements are simple to understand, it’s going to take many hours of gameplay to get to playing it – I apologise in advance to all the new players.
Sunbreak is an absolutely huge expansion to the already gigantic game that is Monster Hunter Rise. The DLC brings improved gameplay features, additions to the combat mechanics as well as some new monsters, new weapons, hunting locales and a brand new difficulty level in the form of Master Rank quests. That’s a ton of new content for us to dive right into!
So, let’s get right to it. Here’s how to start Sunbreak, and how to get to the new village of Elgado.
How to start Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
To unlock the Sunbreak DLC – after purchasing it, of course – players will need to have completed the HR7 hub quest ”Serpent Goddess of Thunder” in the base game.
Simply completing the games Gathering Hub quests will eventually see multiple Urgent Quests pop up, these will allow you to advance your Hunter Rank level upon completion. With each HR level comes with a set of new quests for you to complete. Beat these until you get to the level 7 quests and beat the Thunder Serpent Narwa.
If you’ve done this, you’re ready to take on Sunbreak… sort of.
After speaking to Fugen the Elder and Guild Master Hojo at the Gathering Hub, your Buddy Level Cap will increase and will also add a new 7* quest as well as a new high rank Rampage quest for you to complete. Your new mission will now to be get to HR 20, and this is where Sunbreak can begin.
How to get to the new village of Elgado
Once the above criteria has been achieved, and Sunbreak is now installed, you will get an on-screen notification asking you to go and chat to Rondine the Trader at the village entrance. She will tell you that monsters not native to Kamura are appearing, and something must be done.
If you have previously played Monster Hunter 2, then you will recognise one of the first monsters you will be facing – the Daimyo Hermataur. Speak to Minoto when you are ready to begin the quest to take this one down.
It’s worth noting that doing so will lose you access to Kamura Village, so make sure you have done everything you want to before you embark as it will be another hour or so before you can come back!
Upon defeating the Daimyo Hermataur, you will get a cutscene introducing you to one of Sunbreak’s new characters, Rondine’s sister Dame Fiorayne.
After a short while of exposition, you will speak to Dame Fiorayne and she will allow you to travel to your new home (for now), Elgado.
Good luck, Hunters! And I’ll see you out there!
