The 5 Best Mario Strikers Characters to Get You Excited for Release Day
As we get more and more excited for the full release of Mario Strikers: Battle League, I thought discussing the best Mario Strikers characters would be a great way to distract us until the release date this coming Friday. Nintendo dropped First Kick this past weekend to test the online servers, so we all got a great taste of what’s to come.
So which Mario Strikers characters made the cut? Which ones will you inevitably want on your team come launch day? Let’s find out!
5. Toad
First off, we have Toad. Toad finally gets a chance to shine as an actual player character this time around in Mario Strikers: Battle League. In previous games, Toad was subject to a teammate position, known as sidekicks, and did not get any special treatment as a character, meaning no Hyper Strike or special animations.
Well, that all changes here, and Toad is a legit threat. Not only is Toad quite balanced, but the extra speed makes this one an important choice for your team. Zipping around and creating opportunities is going to make a huge difference, and that automatically makes Toad one of the better Mario Strikers characters.
4. Yoshi
Yoshi comes in at number 4 because of a few reasons. Thanks to insight from the First Kick demo, we know that Yoshi is one of the better shooters and passers in the game. The adorable dinosaur-thing comes back strong, and they are ready to score some goals, create solid opportunities, and cause lots of destruction.
Destruction, you say? Yes. Yoshi has one of the most effective Hyper Strikes, and that’s because the giant egg slams around, knocking out anything in its path, en route to scoring a pair of goals. Having Yoshi on your team is a strong choice, because you need to score goals and Yoshi is top-tier!
3. Mario
Oh, Mario. The game’s namesake is definitely one of the best characters on the roster, because he has to be. Poor Luigi just cannot catch a break, as Mario outperforms him on every stat but passing. Mario is quite balanced, and he is proficient in shooting and technique, making him a valuable asset for your team.
Mario simply has it all, and it’s no wonder, as he is Nintendo’s mascot. He would be number 1 in most players books, but I think there are two characters that outshine Mario for reasons I will get into next.
2. Rosalina
Rosalina is an absolute beast in Mario Strikers: Battle League. I know many people are upset about Daisy not being confirmed (yet!), but Rosalina’s inclusion in the series is a godsend. She is a powerful offensive character, and in the lineup of big characters that can pack a punch and score goals, she takes the cake.
In the Strikers series, being strong is very important, as this is the prime mode of defense. Rosalina knocks opponents out with great power, and her shooting ability is one of the best in the game. Couple those with some solid technique, and we have one of the best overall characters in Battle League! Well, one of the best Mario Strikers characters, because…
1. Waluigi
C’mon. It had to be Waluigi. I mean, who else could be the number one character in Battle League? Waluigi came into the Super Mario world by storm in Mario Tennis, and since then, the “evil Luigi” has truly made a name for himself in all of the sports titles, especially the Strikers series. Honestly, Waluigi is a powerhouse in the defense department, as he has high stats in both strength and speed, making him a scary opponent to hunt you down, strike the hell out of you, and take the ball away.
Not only that, but Waluigi has excellent technique, making him a top-tier ball handler. Oh, and do we need to even mention this? Waluigi has all of the best celebrations and Hyper Strikers. This is one of the most animated and flamboyant characters on the Super Mario roster, and he is an absolute gem in Mario Strikers: Battle League. No wonder the online gaming community wants him in Smash Bros so much!
Mario Strikers: Battle League releases on Friday, June 10th, 2022, and it will likely get some fun updates over time as well to keep it fresh and relevant. It will be exciting to see the full roster and any potential DLC characters down the road. I mean, when Daisy is revealed, I may need to update this list, huh?
