Wii Shop Channel Experiencing Major Issues, Currently Inaccessible
The Wii Shop Channel has been experiencing some major issues the past few days, and right now it is impossible to access the digital store. Upon startup, you will likely be presented with a blank screen of sorts, and you will sit there for a while and may receive an error code.
Many will likely view the situation as unimportant. I mean, we are a couple of console generations past the Nintendo Wii at this point, so many gamers may see this is irrelevant news. Well, the Wii Shop Channel technically closed back in 2019, but those that bought content previously can still access their past purchases. Because of the current situation, that is impossible. Nintendo has stated in the past that the store would eventually lose more and more download options, but nothing has been announced prior to this recent down time.
It is possible that the Wii Shop Channel will return soon, so we will keep you updated as more information comes through.
Last month, Nintendo announced that it will be closing the Wii U and 3DS eShop eShop for purchases in March 2023. It is the natural state of things that previous consoles will eventually lose their relevance and online capabilities, but Nintendo is usually quite prompt on updates and forewarnings, which is why this Wii Shop Channel inaccessibility is a bit shocking.
