Is A Horizon Forbidden West Switch Port Possible?
Sony’s latest first-party release Horizon Forbidden West is going to be one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2022. Naturally, many Nintendo fans would long for a Horizon Forbidden West Switch port, but is that possible?
Could A Horizon Forbidden West Switch Happen?
Unfortunately, a Horizon Forbidden West Switch port is unlikely to occur anytime soon. It is currently a PlayStation exclusive on PS4 and PS5 at the time of writing.
Prior Xbox exclusive titles like Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest have made their way to Nintendo Switch consoles. However, every first-party PlayStation game, other than the upcoming MLB The Show 22, has never made it to Nintendo’s systems. That’s if we don’t count the Crash and Spyro series, of course.
Sony and Nintendo don’t have the greatest of histories together. Just before the N64 era, Sony agreed to make a disc-based system for Nintendo. However, after Sony’s investment into the system, Nintendo second-guessed and went for a cartridge-based project instead.
This annoyed Sony so much that the company decided to make the original PlayStation, one of the most successful brands in gaming history with the aforementioned bandicoot title and Final Fantasy VII available to play.
It would be strange to see Horizon Forbidden West on the Nintendo Switch, knowing this history, but with PlayStation’s latest successful push on PC platforms, anything is possible.
After the purchase of the Destiny developer and publisher Bungie, there was an interesting quote by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President Jim Ryan. “We are starting to go multiplatform, you’ve seen that,” Ryan said to GamesIndustry. “We have an aggressive road map with live services.” Maybe at least upcoming PlayStation live service games could head to the Switch.
If you have a gaming PC with your Nintendo Switch, you’re unfortunately out of luck as well. Despite having Horizon Zero Dawn available on Steam, there are currently no plans by PlayStation to bring Horizon Forbidden West to PC as of the time of writing,
