Bloodroots Super Rare Physical Review for Switch – Perfection!
Bloodroots originally released on the Nintendo Switch back in February 2020, but it appears that the Bloodroots Super Rare treatment is where the game shines best. I reviewed the game itself back in 2020, and it is one of the most entertaining action titles on the Nintendo Switch. Don’t believe me? Check out my review for convincing. Super Rare, however, has taken this amazing indie game and put some shine on it, as this physical presentation, alongside all of their others, is a sight to behold.
Well, our wonderful friends at Super Rare sent us a copy of the Bloodroots Super Rare Physical, and I am going to break down what Super Rare does and why these physical indie releases are wonderful.
To start things off, let me explain how this review will work. This is going to be equal parts a review of the physical product itself and a valuing of the game as well. Since not all games are equal, it only seems fair to combine both physical and digital elements into the final score.
With that said, Bloodroots is an incredible game that somehow slipped under the radar. This is a Contra-like experience in a top-down 3D setting, and it is pure adrenaline from start to finish. Everything about the game is top-tier, and the only flaw I had with the experience while originally reviewing it was that there are moments of difficulty when it comes to depth perception. Outside of that, I find no flaws in this insane action title where just about anything in your environment can be used as a weapon. Oh, and the story and boss fights are some of the best in the indie market.
As for the Bloodroots Super Rare physical, is this package really worth double its digital price? The short answer is YES. Seeing Mr. Wolf, the main protagonist, displayed on a Switch case is something special. Not only that, but the back cover art and the interior art represent the game perfectly, as this is one of the prettiest Switch cases now in my library.
In addition to the wonderful casing, these Super Rare games also come with some extra goodies. First and foremost is the stunning artbook that slides right into the “instruction manual” slot inside the casing. The fact that the Switch cases have these and yet pack no instruction manuals is a heart-breaker. The artbook is wonderfully designed, fits perfectly in the physical case, and compliments the package tremendously.
The other major piece of this Bloodroots Super Rare package is the trading cards. Each order of the game comes with 3 random cards, and they are genuinely cool. In my package, I got Mr. Wolf, Mr. Boar, and No Mercy, and they all look great! I guess the only bummer is that I do not know how to complete my collection, but I guess that is the premise of trading cards, huh?
Finally, the last little memento is the Super Rare sticker that features Mr. Wolf, and this is one of those warm collaborations that shows the two companies that work together can truly make something amazing. For Paper Cult, they have a fantastic game. For Super Rare, they provide a necessary service to the indie game industry.
Overall, the service that Super Rare Games provides is an impeccable one. Sure, at the end of the day, the games we want physically are subjective, and as you can tell from my review of the actual game, Bloodroots was a godsend for me. There are still some copies left, but I am not sure how many. Despite, you should still hurry up and grab a copy while you can, because only 4000 copies have been made, including the one in my possession. If you are a fan of this title, this is beyond worth your money.
However, if you are looking for something else from Super Rare, don’t you worry! They are constantly announcing new partnerships, and in less than a day, you will be able to pre-order a physical copy of Horace.
The Bloodroots Super Rare physical is officially my favorite physical game in my Switch library, and I think it belongs in everyone’s collection.
