E3 2022 Will Be Digital-Only for the 3rd Straight Year
The Entertainment Software Association has updated the public about E3 2022, confirming that the show will once again be digital-only. In 2020, due to the initial state of the pandemic, E3 was cancelled but still hosted some announcements from partners on their site. In 2021, E3 held an entirely digital conference that was very well received and showed off a lot of awesome games.
This year, it appears that E3 2022 will continue in the same style as 2021, so expect a similar format. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense to discourage bringing tens-of-thousands of people together in tight quarters, so although this is a sad decision, it makes sense.
The ESA said in a statement to GamesBeat:
Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022. We are nonetheless excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.

Nintendo has been doing mostly digital-only showings at E3 for a while now, so this decision does not affect the company much at all. We will surely get another Nintendo Direct, the reveal of some big games, and maybe a presentation on one or two games presented in the Direct live via a digital booth at E3.
Look forward to E3 2022 when it happens in June 2022! When the exact dates are announced, we will be sure to update you then.
