Youtubers Life 2 Switch Review – Become A Star

youtubers life 2

Every gamer has had aspirations of started their own YouTube channel and becoming the next PewDiePie, haven’t they? Well, I can say that I have… although, it’s not as easy as it appears to be. That’s why I was happy to be able fulfill at least part of this dream in Youtubers Life 2.

Was it worth the wait, though? Was becoming a virtual YouTuber all it is cracked up to be? Let’s find out!

If, like me, you didn’t experience the first game, don’t worry. Youtubers Life 2 begins with some brief backstory – although, the main mission is pretty much the same. Your manager, Xavier, has invited you to live in NewTube City – a city for influencers. You will then be given the choice of living in the Port, Downtown, or City Hall. Choose your favourite and off we begin.

Youtubers Life 2 is a life simulation game in which your main objective is to become the next big YouTube star/influencer. You will create playthroughs, vlogs, reviews, interviews – you name it! You are in charge, and you decide what is best for your channel.

It’s not just as simple as clicking on what you would like to do, though. Oh, no. In Youtubers Life 2, you will be required to record, edit, and publish every video idea you have. This allows it to feel more personal to you and allows the player to feel completely in control.

When editing videos, you will collect various ‘cards’ that will need to be put in a specific order to get the most views and subscribers from it. These will usually consist of adding an intro, an outro, and anything in between. These will fit together almost like a jigsaw puzzle; the better the pieces fit, the better the score. It is cool to see it all in action, though. At the end of it, you’re given a score rating out of five. Recording, editing, and trends all get individually scored.

As fun as this process is, it can become a little frustrating at times, because you will almost never get a perfect score – not even close. A lot of the pieces that ‘fit together’ you won’t unlock until much later in the game. But I guess that is the point after all. Nobody said becoming a content creator was going to be easy, right?

Youtubers Life 2 isn’t just about creating videos, though. There are a ton of things you can get in to at Newtube City. For starters, there are a bunch of side missions that can and will keep you busy, and this leads you to getting to know various NPCs – of which you can form relationships with, which adds to the longevity of the game.

My absolute favourite part of Youtubers Life 2 was the ability to decorate your home. Yes, that’s right. This game has implemented Animal Crossing features into it – and it’s fantastic! I’m a sucker for any game that allows me to decorate, and it’s cool seeing your little empty apartment being filled with cool nerdy things and upgrading your set-up. It allows you to feel a sense of achievement as your channel builds and builds.

Youtubers Life 2 features an open-world which means you’re pretty much free to explore as you like, although there isn’t a massive world to explore, but there’s some cool stuff to see. None-the-less, it’s nice to not feel forced into a more linear route and be able to experience the game at your own pace.

This is a game about YouTube, so it’s only natural that you would come across some famous faces in the game. And what bigger face could you see than YouTube’s very own PewDiePie! This, again, helps to make it feel more like a real experience in some ways.

As well as being able to customise your home environment, you can also customise every aspect of your appearance. From the clothes you wear to your hair style and colour. It’s quite in-depth, which I really enjoyed. It’s rare that I actually find a game where I can dress my character in clothing of my own style – Youtubers Life 2 delivers on this.

The one area that I did seem to struggle with in the game was honestly the sheer amount of things to do. I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. At the start of each day, you will have a full energy bar. As you complete tasks, make videos, and do pretty much anything, energy levels will go down. Once it is empty, you will no longer be able to perform any tasks, causing you to go to sleep and go onto the next day. This energy level seems to deplete pretty quickly, so I found myself having to organise my days a bit too rigorously.

Overall, Youtubers Life 2 is a brilliant life sim that will provide you with many hours of entertainment. It’s really cool to see so many features implemented that will only improve your gameplay experience, and the little Easter eggs from Youtubers is really cool to see, also. If you enjoy simulation games, this is definitely one for you.
