Modern Vintage Gamer Shows Off the Degradation of Nintendo’s Own Emulation
Yesterday, YouTuber Modern Vintage Gamer posted an incredible video breaking down Nintendo’s own history with emulating Nintendo 64 games on their own hardware. From the GameCube to the Wii to the Wii U and now ultimately the Nintendo Switch, we have seen a slow degradation of the emulation of Nintendo’s own classic games.
Check out the video from Modern Vintage Gamer here:
Nintendo has essentially developed their own emulators since the days of the GameCube, and the reason Modern Vintage Gamer uses The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as the sample in the video is because alongside the release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Nintendo dropped another GameCube disc that included both Ocarina of Time and The Master Quest, a harder version of the same game.
Since then, the same game has been posted to the Wii’s Virtual Console thanks to the Shopping Channel, and then a few years later again on the Wii U’s Virtual Console via the eShop.
Now, we have Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo Switch Online service, and things have taken a serious dip in quality, with the Switch port being the worst one yet. However, it did not start there, as Modern Vintage Gamer so wonderfully displays. It appears Nintendo simply got worse and worse with their emulating, and it looks like this current situation on the Nintendo Switch is the rude awakening.
Definitely check out the video when you have a chance, and even consider subscribing to Modern Vintage Gamer’s channel. He is an excellent YouTuber that provides some amazing content. Share the love!
