RUMOR: Game Boy Will Be Joining Nintendo Switch Online

There is a rumor that the Nintendo Switch Online service is about to expand itself with Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles. This is a surprise and a welcome addition to the service, as new titles coming to the NES and SNES apps have been few and far between lately.

Many people have speculated that the Nintendo 64 would be next in line, but the Game Boy makes more sense. It is a huge part of Nintendo’s legacy, and it would be great to play a pile of Game Boy games on the hybrid console.

The rumor begins with a 2019 datamine in which four emulators were discovered within the official NES Switch application. One of the emulators, which goes by the name “Hiyoko”, is assumed to be for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

Today, YouTuber NateDrake published a new “Nate the Hate” podcast where he and host MVG discuss the possibility of Nintendo Switch Online expanding to include classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles.

Coincidentally, Nintendo Life posted yesterday that they have heard from their own sources that this will be happening “really soon”, which only furthers speculation and intrigue.

At the moment, there is no official word from Nintendo, and the odds that the Game Boy Advance will be included is rather low. Since this is a rumor, take all of this information with a grain of salt and wait for an official announcement, but be hopeful. If this is true, this will bring a lovely set of games to the Switch library!
