Gelatinous: Humanity Lost

Indie publisher The Retro Room, (creator of Quest Arrest, publisher of Chip’s Challenge 2021 SNES/MD re-release) has teamed up with freshman game designer Steven Long to develop and release a brand-new game for the original Game Boy system. Gelatinous: Humanity Lost stands on the shoulders of retro classics like Castlevania, Mega Man and Metroid to bring an all-original sprawling adventure to the original handheld.

Spanning 7 unique areas, packed with detail, Gelatinous takes players on a journey through Aztec pyramids, into forgotten laboratories, down a dangerous jungle river, and right into the belly of a beast. Players begin with nothing. No attacks. Not even the ability to jump. To survive and progress, they must solve the temple maze, discover ancient secrets, and unlock the powers of their gelatinous form.

While their Kickstarter campaign isn’t set to launch until later this year, the Gelatinous team already has a completely playable prototype. Their Kickstarter campaign will cover their costs for production and distribution. Launch is slated for this fall, with a plan to distribute the Kickstarter Edition of Gelatinous before the end of the year.

The Kickstarter Edition will include the Game Boy-compatible cartridge and a manual in a retro-inspired “GameBro” box. The team is still exploring additional swag items like fold-up posters, stickers, and even a retro-style strategy guide.

The Gelatinous Team is targeting an MSRP of around $50 US, but early pledges will receive a discount. Details and development updates are available at GelatinousGame.com, as well as on Twitter @GelatinousGame.

The Kickstarter for Gelatinous: Humanity Lost will be launching later this year, but you can head on over to the Preview Page and request to be notified when the campaign launches. This looks like an incredible Kickstarter to bring a new title to the original Game Boy. I don’t know about you, but that sounds awesome and it looks great, too!
