Rabisco+ Switch Review – Collecting all the Stars

Rabisco+ is an easy to learn yet challenging to play game about collecting the moon’s lost stars. I have to say I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The developers have done an excellent job at ticking all the boxes a good game should have. Story, nice gameplay, a fitting soundtrack, collectibles, extra challenge, and something new to offer to the world of video games.

So without further introduction, here’s my little review on Rabisco+.

You play as a cloud/fish/blob type thing, possibly called Rabisco, who has decided to take up the task of finding all the moon’s missing stars. Although it’s not much of a story, the game didn’t need any more, this was enough to tell me why I was playing. The gameplay consists of 100 levels split into groups of ten. Each group of levels has a different unlockable colour for your character, a gem to find, and a new item for you to dodge or interact with.

Some other interesting things are a hard mode, which disables all checkpoints throughout the levels, and although there are multiple stars in majority of the levels, you don’t have to collect them all. Whether the game is super hard or much easier is really up to how much you want to do. Being someone that likes collectibles, I had to get all the stars the first time.

The prospect’s very simple, but I think what allowed me to enjoy this game above others is that Rabisco+ is always giving you something new. There are no two levels I could pick out as being the same or even similar to one another. From the very first tutorial to the unique final boss, I was always kept engaged and enjoying the game. Something that contributed to that was how short the game was, too, only taking two or three hours to complete with most collectibles.

From watching the trailer the two things that really stood out the most for me were the art style and the cute little soundtrack. This game has such an adorable hand-drawn style. Everything has either a happy or sad face, and it just made the playing more enjoyable.

The game takes place on what looks like lined paper, which not only adds to the style but is really handy for lining up your movements just right. The soundtrack is so happy, you’ll have to listen to it to appreciate its true goodness.

To put it simply, this was a great game. Everything about it was nice, and despite it being pretty hard at times, I was never actually frustrating.

The cute art, soundtrack, and ever-changing gameplay were engaging from start to finish. I only encountered a few small bugs, so overall it was nice and smooth, too. I’d recommend to anyone who’s up for some challenging gameplay and some cute lazer beams.
