Nintendo Rumored to Release 4K Docked Switch Before Christmas

It looks like Bloomberg is back with some more rumor mill material, and this time they are reporting that Nintendo is gearing up to announce the Nintendo Switch Pro or Super Nintendo Switch or whatever it is going to be soon, and it will release by the end of 2021. The report says the new Switch will be “equipped with a bigger Samsung OLED display” that will be 7-inches long while maintaining 720p resolution in mobile mode. That is technically a bigger screen than both the Switch and Switch Lite, so if the dock stays the same, the new Switch may see a sleeker bezel.

Bloomberg is suggesting that Samsung will begin production for the device as early as June this year, and assembly following up quickly in July. It even seems like their initial monthly manufacturing goal is to produce about a million per month.

Yoshio Tamura, co-founder of display consultancy DSCC, told Bloomberg that the OLED display “will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display.”

Bloomberg even says that Nintendo pursued rigid OLED displays for the new model, as it is “a cheaper but less flexible alternative to the type commonly used for high-end smartphones.”

The last major point is that the new docking capabilities will allow the new Switch will display 4K ultra-high definition graphics. What this means for future Switch games is still left unsaid, but one can only imagine that Nintendo will go the same route they did with the New 3DS, which had exclusives unplayable on the original 3DS.

But like all things, take this with a grain of salt until we get an official announcement. Despite that, the Bloomberg report seems to have legitimacy.
