Roots of Pacha, Prehistoric Farming Sim, Hits Kickstarter Today

Roots of Pacha, the “farming & life simulation game set in the early days of civilization”, has already raised over $13,000 of it’s $35K goal from a whopping 288 backers. The game promises that while it will stick to it’s farming sim roots, the prehistoric spin will be noticeable. Notably, you won’t see any of the traditional plant or animal shops. Instead, you will have to explore the wildlands to find these for yourself.

The funding amount has risen to almost $16,000 (45%) and 333 backers while I’ve been writing this piece. Better hand over to Jason, our editor-in-chief, before I have to update it again!

If you’ve been keeping up with the world of game crowdfunding over the last few days, you’ll know that there have been more than a few farming sims on these platforms recently, with one growing to over $1 million (Sorry for the pun).

One commenter on the trailer, which was featured on IGN today, said “Looks like a more fleshed-out Stardew Valley, which was a more fleshed-out Harvest Moon.” which I think sums up what this game is trying to do pretty well.

Nintendo Link reached out to the game’s publisher Crytivo, developer of God Sim The Universim, which funded on Kickstarter itself back in 2014, for a comment, and they were kind enough to provide one:

We’re incredibly proud of the team behind Roots of Pacha. They’ve put a lot of love and work into this game and the experience they are aiming to create.

I also asked about the growth of the genre as a whole:

It’s been (sic) super exciting to see this genre taking off in general. It’s one I personally enjoy, and clearly I’m not alone. We’ve had souls-like, metroidvanias, rogue-likes, etc for a while. It’s awesome to see a strong emergence of farming/life sims or even “Harvest Moon/Stardew-likes.” The comparisons are inevitable and realistically an honor. And for Roots of Pacha, in particular, the game is literally about working together to build and improve your community, so seeing the farming sim community growing is so exciting.

So What do you think? Will you back Roots of Pacha or wait until release? If you’re a big farming sim fan, have you even got any cash left after all the recent Kickstarters? We want to hear from you, so let us know down in the comments! Thank you for stopping by Nintendo Link.
