AEW Games Bringing New Title to Current and Next Gen Consoles

AEW Games announced three new games the wrestling company has been working on, including one title that is destined for current and next generation consoles. All Elite Wrestling and Yuke’s are working together to bring a new wrestling game to the table, and it looks like they took a lot of inspiration from old N64 titles like WWE No Mercy and WCW vs NWO World Tour. For wrestling game fans, this is great news, because those titles from THQ and Asmik Ace Entertainment have long been considered the best wrestling titles ever.

AEW Games even made a presentation video to go along with the announcement today done in an Apple-like way. Stars like Kenny Omega, Britt Baker, Cody Rhodes, and referee Aubrey Edwards one-by-one presented different things AEW Games will be bringing to the gaming world.

There is no news exactly that this new AEW game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but during the presentation, Kenny Omega did say “all current and next generation consoles”, so the hope of playing this new titles on our favorite hybrid console is still there.

Surprisingly, they actually showed off some early footage of the game which showed models for Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, and Hikaru Shida. Although this is quite pre-alpha footage, everything is looking quite good so far and there is a lot of promise, especially since they have legendary game developer and director of WWE No Mercy, Hideyuki Iwashita, helping with the project.

There is no word on a release date, a title, or how much it will cost, but since AEW Games has their own Twitter account and YouTube channel, following either of those forms of social media should help keep you up to date.

It is exciting to learn that AEW is doing more than simply offering an alternative to WWE in regards to their weekly programming, and it will be great to see what competition of this caliber will bring to wrestling video games as well.
