Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct!

Holy freakin’ cow! We all had hoped and prayed for Nintendo to deliver something big for Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary, but I do not think anyone was expecting this much. Nintendo, out of the blue, released a Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, and it covers a lot. There is a little new, a little old, and a whole lot of things in between to be excited about.

Check out the new Direct below!

Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

The Anniversary Direct talks a whole lot about Super Mario and Super Mario-related things. It is an exciting series of announcements, so let’s dive in!

Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch

A new, custom Game & Watch that is able to play both the original Super Mario and Super Mario 2 (The Lost Levels) games. And since it is a Game & Watch, it also tells time and has Mario-themed Game & Watch games! It is in Limited Production, so if you are interested, keep an eye on this one. It will be available on November 13, 2020.

Super Mario 3D World+

I an unsurprising announcement, Super Mario 3D World is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. The super-popular and highly praised Wii U title introduced us to the wonderful cat suit and allows for chaotic and super-fun local multiplayer.

But there is more! This version is actually called Super Mario 3D World+, and it includes Bowser’s Fury, a new addition to the game. All of this will release on the Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021.

Super Mario Bros. 35

Compete against other players near and far in this online battle game! Super Mario Bros. 35 takes a note from Tetris 99 but will obviously include less players. It will be offered exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members, and in a bizarre twist, it will only be playable from 10/1/2020 until 3/31/2021. Whatever that actually means, the game releases digitally on 10/1/2020.

Mario Kart Live Home Circuit

Nintendo appears to be continuing down the physical toy route, and this time looks to be incredibly interesting. Unlike the recently release LEGO series, Mario Kart Live Home Circuit will work alongside the Nintendo Switch system where you can customize real-world areas to become Mario Kart tracks.

The toys include a camera at the top and some kind of pairing to the Switch in order to connect and sync as you drive a kart both digitally and physically in this new game! Mario Kart Live Home Circuit will debut on October 16, 2020.

My Nintendo Rewards

During this 35th Anniversary season, sign in to your My Nintendo account to do tasks and missions to receive cool rewards, including an exclusive pin set while supplies last! So if you are interested in getting some cool, new Mario pins, hurry up and complete those tasks!

Various Announcements

The mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, will be getting new themed skins in the form of 8-bit Mario and Donkey Kong Jr to drive around.

35th Anniversary goods and shirts will be available at the New York Nintendo Story, but you can also access and order them on store.nintendo.com.

A 35th Anniversary Ninji Speed Run will be making its way to Super Mario Maker 2.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be holding a special tournament that uses Super Mario themed fighters, stages, and items.

A Super Mario themed Splatfest and is making its way to Splatoon 2 in January, and Splatoon 2/Super Mario themed keychains will be available as My Nintendo Rewards closer to the Splatfest. Physical Splatfest t-shirts will soon be available on store.nintendo.com.

Super Mario themed furniture will be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

There will be even more Super Mario Bros. 35 Anniversary goods and products releasing in these times, so make sure to keep an eye out on things like shoes, stylized overalls, and more! Further details can be found on their website, SuperMario35.com or you can follow them on Twitter, @NintendoAmerica.

Super Mario All-Stars

The classic combination of Super Mario, Super Mario 2 (USA), Super Mario 2 (Lost Levels), and Super Mario 3 all updated to SNES-style graphics will be added to the Super NES Nintendo Switch Online Collection today.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars

super mario bros. 3D all-stars

In a wonderful segue way from Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES, Nintendo announced Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which includes classics like Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube), and Super Mario Galaxy (Wii). Not only will the games receive a high resolution than their originals, but they will be getting the proper 16:9 ratio treatment as well!

One confusing thing that exists is within Super Mario Galaxy. The video says, “Compatible with 2 Joy-Con controllers”, but it does not confirm if that is the only play method. Switch Lite owners may not be able to play Super Mario Galaxy without an extra pair of Joy-Cons, which is kind of sad and unfortunate. Let’s hope this is not necessarily true, though, or at least will be rectified by the time it is released.

Music from all three games will be included as part of the collection in Music Player Mode. The package will launch on September 18, 2020. Similar to the Super Mario 35 game, Nintendo has decided to draw a line on this package both physically and digitally, as they will only be available until the end of March, 2021. Pre-order is available on the eShop now.
